We're Laura and Alex. We got engaged on Greybeard Trail in Montreat, and we've been hooked on this corner of the mountains ever since.

We made most of the fun stuff ourselves. There's a treasure hunt hidden across the property. There's a nature kit for kids, a telescope for clear nights, and a GPS history hunt through downtown Black Mountain. Our local picks get updated constantly, and every one has been rechecked since Helene.

When are check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4:00 PM. Check-out is 10:00 AM.

How many people does it sleep?

Seven, and that's the max. There's a king upstairs with two twin tent beds beside it, an adjustable queen on the main floor, and a queen sofa bed in the loft.

Can we bring dogs?

Yes, up to three. The old horse pasture is fenced for fetch, and there are dog bowls, towels and blankets in the kitchen. Please keep dogs off the furniture. No cats, sorry. One of us is severely allergic.

Is it good for kids?

Very. Tent beds, a closet full of games, a treasure hunt on the property and the Moonlight Explorer kit. The hot tub is for ages 5 and up, with an adult.

Do I need four-wheel drive?

December through February, yes. AWD or 4WD. The last 1.5 miles are gravel. It's well kept but narrow in spots, so take it slow.

Can I work from here?

Yes. The WiFi is fast and the loft has a desk with a monitor. Cell service is spotty for some carriers, so plan on WiFi calling.

How far is town?

About 20 minutes to downtown Black Mountain, 25 to Montreat and 30 to Asheville.

What about bears?

They live here too. Keep food and trash inside overnight.
